High flying Kakamega County football champions Musingu High School launched their Western Region Secondary School games campaign on a high note after beat Vihiga High School 2-0 in a thrilling match played in a full-packed Bukhungu Stadium on Wednesday.

Allan Litwaka scored the first goal in the 15th minute before Elvis Ochieng came off the bench to seal the win at the closing stages of the match.

Speaking after the win, Musingu head coach Brendan Mwinamo said they look forward to becoming Western soccer's new kingpin.

"We are going to prove our worth and if Kakamega and other teams are not participating then it means we are the best and we are going to fill the gap of soccer giants and bring the trophy back home not once but twice," said Mwinamo.

The former Kakamega High School tactician however said his boys were not in their best element, something he vowed to improve in the next stage to ensure he wins all their remaining games.

"My boys showcased low speed and a few counters which is their best strength, going forward we are going to improve on that and ensure we win all our remaining matches," he said.

On the other hand, Vihiga coach Duncan Kihima said his boys did not play to the expectations stating that his team made two mistakes that cost them two goals.

"We are going to improve on defense because my boys had poor communication that led to the first goal," said Kihima.

"We also saw a mistake from our goalkeeper, but one of the biggest problems was at midfield. Our tactical player got an injury last week during the training and his absence made the midfielders fail to supply enough balls to our strikers."

Kihima said he has been left with no option but to win the last two games promising his fans that the team will go through.

Musingu High is in Group A alongside Vihiga Boys, Kibabii High, and Bujumba Boys.

Emusire boys are in Group B alongside Friends Lukhuna, Shanderema, and John Osogo.
