Derek Okova amassed 48 stableford points to win the 2024 Nairobi Hospital Children's Charity Heart Fund Golf Tournament held at the par 72Karen Golf and Country Club in Nairobi on Friday.

William Muiguma was the men's winner on 44 points while Kalee Maleli went home with the lady winners' gong on 40.

While savoring his feat on the pristine golf course, Okova, who is also the Kenya Pipeline Operations and Maintenance General Manager, stated: "I felt privileged to take part in this event and as Kenya Pipeline, we are delighted to partner with these kinds of initiatives which go a long way in supporting the less privileged in our society."

Playing off handicap 14, Muiguma nestled 20 points in the front nine and 24 at the back nine to win the men's trophy.

"This victory is so dear to me because it shows my game is improving. I'm also glad the event raised good money to support cchildren with congenital heart conditions from economically disadvantaged backgrounds," Muiguma stated.

The 42-year-old father of three took part in the tournament last season, unfortunately things did not go his way.

"Today, I had an amazing four ball on the course including my friend Charles Omondi who inspired me into golfing, the course was also in good shape, so I had less hiccups on the fairways," underlined Muiguma whose vision is to play on a single handicap in the next four years.

As part of its long-running charity initiative, The Nairobi Hospital together with its partners, through the Hospital's Children's Charity Heart Fund, have sponsored free heart operations for needy children aged 0 - 12 years with congenital heart conditions for several years now.

This drive has seen more than 400 deserving children from different parts of the country benefit. This year, The Nairobi Hospital has once again partnered with several corporates and other well-wishers to raise Sh10 million to cater for the treatment of at least 20 children.

The Hospital is encouraging partners to adopt one or more children to facilitate their surgery.

"This year's fundraiser is themed 'Giving Little Hearts Big Dreams'. This golf tournament is critical for us and unique in many respects but most important, it brings out the soft side of our brand because of what we are doing to support needy children in our society," The Nairobi Hospital Chief Executive Officer James Nyamongo said.
