With a congested sporting calendar awaiting Nakuru County this season, Afraha Stadium will be ready to host the Kenya Communications Sports Organizations (KECOSO) Games from August 24-31.

Nakuru will be hosting the event for the seventh time since the inception of the games several decades ago.

And as the first phase of the facility, which is funded by the World Bank nears completion, Nakuru Deputy Governor David Kones assured that they will be ready to stage the games, which have molded some of the top sportsmen and women in different disciplines in the republic.

He said the facility is 95 percent complete and in the next five months it should be ready.

"By KECOSO Games' time, the facility should be completed as we are only 95 percent complete. The time left is enough for us to ensure we get the remaining work fully done," Kones told reporters at Nakuru County headquarters when the Kecoso Games officials paid him a courtesy call.

Kones called on the sporting fraternity to take advantage of their presence in the city to tour tourist sites within the county.

KECOSO Secretary General Omole Asiko said their strong partnership with Nakuru County Government has made them bring the event back to the city.

"Our readiness to have them hosted here (Nakuru) is a commitment to take sports to the grassroots and a testament of our strong partnership with the county government as we proceed with our meetings to ensure we come up with a successful event again," he said.

Asiko said he has a membership of 30 organisations who have confirmed their participation in the week-long competition.

"Besides these (30) teams and in our normal tradition, we have invited the hosting county to provide us with selected sides of her teams in different disciplines to come in as guest teams," said Asiko.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) are the overall defending champions. They won the overall crown when the games were held in Narok last year.
