The race to win the 2022-2023 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title is becoming trickier and crowded after surprise package Nzoia Sugar joined the race last Saturday.

The Bungoma County outfit shocked defending champions Tusker 1-0 at their Sudi Stadium fortress where they not lost in their 11 matches played so far (five wins and six draws).

The rare victory over the title-chasing brewers lifted the sugar men back into the title conversations as they trail leaders Gor Mahia who are five points ahead.

With eight matches left until the end of the season, the biggest question remains, who wins the title.

Well, Tusker will bite their nails in anguish after failing to protect their top spot over the weekend.

The Robert Matano charges headed into the round 26 matches sitting at the helm of the FKF Premier League standings on 54 points, a point above record champions Gor Mahia.

A win over Nzoia in Bungoma would have reduced the title chase to a two-horse race plus having the privilege to sit at the top.

The defeat not only allowed Gor Mahia to move back top with two points advantage but also reduced Tusker's chances of retaining the title because they will be facing Gor Mahia soon in a must win match.

If Gor head's into the fixture with Tusker still top with two points and defeats the brewers, it will be race over but all is still left to fight for as eight games remain.

Gor are now top with 56 points followed by Tusker on 54 and Nzoia Sugar on 51 points.

Gor Mahia play FC Talanta on Wednesday as Tusker play nother top four side KCB. Nzoia Suagr has a date with Posta Rangers on the same day.
