With three teams tied at the top of the Kenya Cup standings, the battle for supremacy intensifies today as Menengai Oilers welcome Impala Saracens in a crucial encounter in Nakuru.

Even as defending champions Kabras Sugar, KCB Rugby, and Oilers all boasting perfect records with 35 points apiece, every point will be vital as the regular season nears its climax.

Oilers enter this clash as favourites, having won three of their last four encounters against Impala.

The Nakuru-based side's biggest win over their Nairobi opponents was a commanding 28-10 victory in the 2021/22 season, while their only loss in recent meetings came in the 2019/20 campaign (39-29).

With an average of 24 points scored per match and 23.5 conceded, Oilers will aim to capitalise on their superior attacking form against a struggling Impala side.

Impala, currently sixth on the standings with just 11 points from seven matches, will need a major turnaround to stand a chance against their hosts.

They have won only two matches all season and are coming off a difficult run of form. However, an upset win could revive their slim hopes of a top-four finish.

Kabras Sugar, who top the table on point difference (+419), face a tricky test against fifth-placed Kenya Harlequin. Quins have secured four wins in seven matches and have a strong home record.

However, they will have their hands full containing a Kabras side that has been dominant throughout the season, scoring a massive 419 points in just seven games.

KCB, level on 35 points with Kabras and Oilers, will also be on the road against fourth-placed Nondescripts. Nondies have been solid this season, with six wins out of seven matches, and will be determined to slow down KCB's charge for the top spot.

The bankers, on the other hand, have been in ruthless form, scoring 313 points while conceding just 30.

At the bottom of the table, Nakuru RFC will be desperate to register their first win of the season when they host Kisumu RFC. Both teams have struggled, with Nakuru sitting in last place with zero points and Kisumu just above them with 11 points.

A win for Kisumu would ease their relegation fears, while Nakuru will be fighting to avoid a winless campaign.

Elsewhere, Mwamba RFC, also battling relegation, face Strathmore Leos in a must-win game. Mwamba have had a torrid season with just one win in seven matches and will need to take advantage of Leos' inconsistent form.

Blak Blad and South Coast Pirates, both with two wins this season, go head-to-head in another crucial mid-table clash. A win for either side could boost their survival hopes significantly.
