Shujaa’s poor run continues as they miss out on Seville 7s quarters

Kenya Sevens dropped to the Challenge Trophy for the second consecutive weekend after falling 14-10 to Scotland in yesterday's final Group D match of the Seville Sevens at Estadio Olímpico De La Cartuja in Spain.

Shujaa went into the match requiring a win to progress to the quarterfinals having lost to Australia 42-0 in the opener before bouncing back to thrash Canada 24-5. 

But another poor show from Innocent Simiyu's boys saw Scotland qualify to the next round alongside Australia. 

Kenya have five points and are once again out of the Main Cup quarterfinal bracket. They will now battle for the ninth place today. 

Kenya Sevens started the day on a high after bouncing back to winning ways by thrashing Canada 24-5. A team effort from the East Africans saw them score four tries in the win. 

Shujaa managed to shake off their humiliating opening day defeat to Australia with tries from Herman Humwa, Alvin Otieno, Vincent Onyala and Antony Omondi inspiring them to victory.

In the match, Canada struck first after going 5-0 up with unconverted try but the lead did not take long as Humwa responded swiftly to give Kenya a narrow 7-5 half time lead.

Alvin Otieno crossed over to push the scores to 12-5 moments after the restart before Shujaa's best player so far Vincent Onyala grabbed his seventh try of the series and Kenya's third.

Tony Omondi sealed the win with a late touchdown as Shujaa went on to grab maximum points.

Locally, Kabras Sugar moved top of the Kenya Cup log after overcoming Menengai Oilers  32-17 at ASK Grounds, Nakuru, yesterday to end the Oilers' unbeaten run in the league. 

The sugar men scored four tries John Kubu, Walter Okoth, Barry Robinson and George Nyambua to help the Kakamega-based club collect their seventh straight bonus win of the season. 

In Kakamega, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) ended their five match winless run after narrowly beating Kenyatta University's Blak Blad 7-0. 

Veron Kaburu scored the only try of the match converted by Erick Cantona to give MMUST four important points as the race to survive relegation heats up. 

Elsewhere, defending champions KCB saw off Kenya Harlequin 45-10, Strathmore Leos edged out Homeboyz 30-24 as Nakuru stunned Nondescripts 23-22.
