Nine people were Tuesday killed in a grisly road accident in the Koguta area on the Londiani Junction-Muhoroni Road.

According to police, a Nissan matatu traveling towards Kisumu collided head-on with a lorry going in the opposite direction.

Kericho County Police Commander Geoffrey Mayek confirmed that five of the deceased were men, while four were women. All the casualties were aboard the Public Service Vehicle (PSV).

Mayek stated that police are searching for the lorry driver, who fled the scene after the accident.

Three injured victims were rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital for treatment. The PSV driver was among those who died.

Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry driver was speeding and collided with the matatu while attempting to avoid potholes on the road.

In July 2023, on the same road, 52 people died in another fatal accident.
