Uasin Gishu county assembly is set to vet Deputy Governor nominee Evans Kipruto Kapkea Wednesday.

Governor Jonathan Bii nominated the Tembelio Member of County Assembly as his new deputy following the resignation of Eng John Barorot two weeks ago.

Upon successful vetting and approval by the cssembly, Kapkea ,34, will become the third deputy governor of Uasin Gishu county.

Speaking during Barorot’s farewell party at the Eka hotel in Eldoret, the MCAs, led by Majority Leader Julius Sang emphasized the importance of thorough vetting.

"Kapkea is our honourable member, but for this slot, we will be thorough in our vetting," Sang said.

Kapkea who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, chaired the Trade, Industrialization, Tourism and Investment Committee and is also a member of the Budget, Finance and Appropriation Committee.

Governor Bii said that his decision to nominate Kapkea was made with a focus on fair representation for Tembelio Ward.

"Of all the wards in Moiben, it is only Tembelio that had not been well represented in my administration. I thought it wise to have their MCA represent the interests of his people as my Deputy," Bii explained.

The governor described Kapkea as a dedicated budding leader with great potential and bright future.

“Amid speculation and lobbying for the deputy governor role, many prominent names were being discussed on social media, but I chose to give a chance to this young leader with a bright future. I am committed to mentoring him well," added the County boss.

Bii also hailed Barorot for his dedication and the strides made during his tenure and called on Kapkea to follow in his predecessor’s footstep should he be approved by the assembly.

"Barorot’s dedication to public service, combined with his technical expertise and tireless work ethic has been a true inspiration to us all. His tenure as my deputy governor has been marked by significant achievements and transformative projects that have greatly influenced the course of our governance. We wish him every success in the next chapter of his journey," he said.

Bii on August 19 announced Eng Barorot’s resignation as deputy governor saying that he had landed a Chief Executive Officer job at an international ICT firm.
