Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has set an unwanted record for Arsenal="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/sports/football/2001393223/arsenal-0-3-aston-villa-watkins-scores-twice-as-vibrant-villa-stun-arsenal"> after their defeat to Aston Villa<.
The Gabon international failed to register a single shot in their 3-0 defeat to the Villans.
It was the first time in his Gunners career he has done so in a league game at the Emirates since signing from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.
But he was not the only one at fault for shoddy attacking play after just two shots in total on Sunday night.
However, it was an alarming performance from the striker - who was so reliable in front of goal last season.
It has been a slow start to the campaign for Aubameyang, with just two goals in eight outings so far in the Premier League.
The result leaves Mikel Arteta with many questions going into the international break.
It was a major setback for a side harbouring ambitions of launching a campaign based on finishing in the top four, at least.
Bukayo Saka opened the scoring - however, in the wrong end, after netting an own goal in the first half.
After the break, Ollie Watkins grabbed a quickfire double to rub salt in the wounds and claim a 3-0 victory away from home.
Mikel Arteta was left shellshocked by his team's performance but admitted full responsibility for the result.
"First of all congratulations to Aston Villa for the way they played and the victory," he told Sky Sports.
"After that, we performed below our standards and I have to say it's the first time I've seen us play and we weren't a team.
"I take full responsibility. We didn't start well enough, we got away with VAR for an offside situation but we lost all the races, the duels and we were sloppy on the ball.
"When we created chances we didn't hit the target. It's a really bad combination.
"We left spaces and on the counter we looked really vulnerable.
"I take full responsibility. I am responsible to make the team perform on the pitch and today we were not a team and it is my job. It is why I am standing here."
