UDA party officials in Homa Bay have said the cooperation between ODM and Kenya Kwanza Government will not impede their efforts to popularise their party in the county.

Activities of the UDA party have been silent in Homa Bay since ODM began collaborating with the government, a partnership which saw four former senior ODM officials appointed cabinet secretaries in President William Ruto’s government.

This had left tongues wagging regarding the future of UDA in the county which had begun gaining vibrancy.

Council officials led by former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, Homa Bay UDA chairman Kennedy Obuya, Secretary Silus Jakakimba, former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo and Odoyo Owidi,  said they are committed to ensuring that  UDA becomes the most popular party in the county.

Speaking during UDA executive committee meeting in Kendu Bay, the officials said they had resolved to register at least 60 per cent of registered voters in Homa Bay.

“We have resolved to embark on serious efforts for strengthening UDA in Homa Bay. The information that ODM is collaborating with the government is just an effort of uniting the country but that will not shake our efforts of strengthening UDA in Nyanza,” Kidero said.

He they are committed to marshaling support for President Ruto in Nyanza region.

“We call on voters in Nyanza to accord the President the necessary support in his quest to unite the people of this country,” he added.

Obuya told residents to join UDA in large numbers to enable benefit from more government development projects.

“Let us embrace the ongoing development projects. I plead with everyone to join UDA so that we can walk together in this journey,” Obuya said.

Jakakimba said the ongoing development projects will transform lives of residents.

He told Homa Bay residents that Ruto means well for them hence they should support him by joining UDA.

"We know President has initiated a lot of development projects in our county. I appeal to our people to support him so that we continue getting more projects. UDA is the right destination,” Jakakimba said.

Owidi said the people of Nyanza had tasted the benefit of the government during President Ruto’s regim hence they should not return to the opposition.

"It is now a reality that everyone in Nyanza wants to be part of the government Some of us who joined the government earlier were criticised but we have now known that the government is the destination of everybody in this region," Owidi said.

Mr Ogindo said they are in wooing the Luo community to support Ruto as an effort of fostering national unity.

"We will not quit the government because we are uniting the country," Ogindo said.
