Kanu officials have embarked on a membership registration drive across the North Rift to strengthen the former ruling party.

The party's Uasin Gishu county chairman Moses Maina said they are on a mission to recruit like-minded Kenyans.

Maina revealed that party members would lead the registration drive.

The Uasin Gishu Kanu chairman said the party's organs were engaging in consultative meetings aimed at mobilising their members across the country.

Addressing the media in Eldoret, Maina maintained that Kanu was "here to stay."

"I want to state categorically that Kanu is still a strong party. As life members, we trust in the leadership and manifesto of the party. We have been looking for better strategies to gain political ground," he said.

He said the party was stronger across many counties.

"We are not competing with any party in the country, Kanu is a national party, it's only that we did not have a presidential candidate in the last General Election however we still have hope in our party chairman Gideon Moi, he is a man to watch in the near future," Maina said

Uasin Gishu Kanu Secretary Judy Chelal and party member Benjamin Leting, said they opted to support Azimio leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 General Election but the party remains vibrant.

Chelal revealed that they don't have blood bad with other political parties since most political formations were established by individuals who were once in Kanu.

Leting said the party mentored majority of the current crop of leaders in the country.

He appealed to President William Ruto and Raila to put aside their differences and restore peace and unity among Kenyans.
