Former Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has apologised to Kenyans following concerns about his lifestyle.

In a statement on Wednesday, July 24, Murkomen acknowledged that his conduct and lifestyle over the past two years had offended.

"The last two weeks have been moments of deep reflection. I would like to unreservedly apologise to every Kenyan who I may have offended through my words, deeds, and conduct, including my lifestyle, during my public service," said Murkomen.

His apology follows his recent appearance on Obinna Show Live, where he discussed his expensive possessions, including a watch valued at Sh900,000, a belt costing between Sh40,000 and 50,000, shoes priced at Sh70,000 to 80,000, and ties at Sh20,000 each.

The revelation of his wealth came amid a public backlash against the perceived luxury of the political elite as Kenyans face economic difficulties.

His apology comes amid President Ruto's cabinet reshuffle, who nominated him as the Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, replacing Ababu Namwamba, pending Parliament's vetting.

During one televised address from State House in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 24, the President nominated Davis Chirchir for the Ministry of Roads and Transport and Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives and MSME Development.

Other nominations include John Mbadi (National Treasury), Stella Soi Langa't (Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage), Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), Justin Muturi (Public Service), Salim Mvurya (Investments, Trade and Industry), Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy), and Alfred Mutua (Mining and Blue Economy).

Ruto said he would announce more nominees soon, sparking speculation over the absence of some former cabinet members.
