Sakaja fined Sh500,000 for snubbing summons

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been fined Sh500,000 by a Senate committee for snubbing summons for a year.
The Roads, Transport and Infrastructure Committee termed the Governor's action contemptuous, and directed him to appear tomorrow.
The Senators asked Sakaja to provide travel manifest to prove that he traveled out of the country after the Acting County Secretary Patrick Analo wrote to the committee requesting a change of date.
Chairpersons of residents associations had requested a meeting with the committee to appraise it of their concerns over the ongoing urban regeneration programme.
Ofafa Jericho, Jericho Lumumba, California and Ofafa Maringo estates are among the 13 in Eastlands earmarked for re-development in a partnership with the Israeli government.

The residents of the New Pumwani-California estate had sent a petition to the county government requesting that the ownership of the houses be converted from a Social Housing Units to Tenant Purchase Scheme for payment of mortgage but they are yet to get a response.
They asked the Governor to provide a copy of the agreement between the Israeli and Kenya governments.
Sakaja is expected to provide a copy of the report on Urban Renewal Plan for Eastlands, a copy of development control guidelines for Eastlands, and the status of the response to the New Pumwani/California petition.
The committee is requesting for the status of the current ownership of the houses in the estates, a copy of title deeds for the parcels of land on which the estates are built and the original plans for the development of the estate.
The Governor is also required to provide a statement of rent collected by the county government since 1985 for Ofafa Jericho Estate, 1988 for Jericho Lumumba and 1990 for Ofafa Maringo.
