Kisii Central sub-county Police Commander Isaack Kimwele is among three worshipers injured Sunday morning in Deliverance International Church by a knife-wielding man.

The three moved to the pulpit to rescue presiding Reverend Peter Rotich from the attacker when they were injured.

A police report indicates that a middle-aged man rushed to the pulpit and drew a knife to stab Rev Rotich who was delivering the sermon.

“Two police officers who were deployed at the said church to offer security spotted an unknown male adult walking into the church while the service was ongoing and started behaving suspiciously.”

The suspect was swiftly stopped by the said officers assisted by Mr Kimwele.

During the struggle to get the suspect out of the church, he stabbed the senior police officer in the left arm and two faithful.

One of the victims, a male aged 39 was stabbed on the right side of the head while the other male aged 57 sustained a cut on the left arm.

Kisii Central Police Station officers rushed to the scene and arrested the suspect.

Kisii County Police Commander Charles Kasses said the injured victims were treated and discharged from hospital.

“We are carrying out investigations into the incident. All the three have been treated and discharged. There is information that the suspect is not a member of the said church,” Kasses said.
