Four police officers have been killed in a suspected Al Shabaab attack in Mandera County.

The four, members of Special Operations Group were attacked at the border of Banisa and Mandera West Sub-counties.

According to a police report seen by The Standard, 6 others were injured in the attack that ensued at Har Sigenge area on the evening of Thursday, July, 1, with five others still missing.

 “Yesterday around 5:45 pm Special Operations Group officers (SOG) and National Police Reservists (NPR) from Guba were attacked while patrolling Har Sigenge area by Al Shabaab militants. Four officers were confirmed dead,3 SOG and 3 NPR officers got injured and 5 SOG officers are still missing,” read the report.

The six have been attended to at Banisa Hospital awaiting airlifting to Nairobi for further treatment as the search for those missing continues.
