Embarambamba, Getumbe face potential ban over inappropriate content

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has issued a strong warning against the spread of content considered inappropriate for minors.
This response comes after videos featuring religious figures in questionable acts and local artists engaging in what has been described as offensive performances surfaced online.
The KFCB, in its official statement, pointed out, "Other depictions of inappropriate content doing rounds include recorded religious acts by a Bishop going by the name 'Johanna', who is among the adults, using their religious influence to mislead the public through indecent exposure performances, with sexual innuendos, in a religious institution, where minors are likely exposed."
The Board further reminded content creators that filming without a license is against the law, specifically Section 4 of the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222.
It stressed that any film or class of film must be examined and approved by the Board before being shown or broadcast.
In response to the current situation, KFCB has directly demanded that Embarambamba and Getumbe remove the questionable content from their platforms, warning that failure to comply will result in legal action.
"A demand letter has been issued to: (Chris Embarambamba and William Getumbe) to pull down any inappropriate content from their various platforms, failure to which, they will face the law in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the Laws of Kenya," stated the KFCB.
Furthermore, the KFCB has contacted various platforms to have the disputed content removed.
The Board has also called on parents and guardians to keep a close eye on the content their children access, especially during school breaks.
Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua announced on X that steps are being taken to address the issue.
In his tweet, Mutua stated, "Finally, KFCB strikes! Embarambamba and Getumbe's obnoxious content will be deleted from social media. MCSK has also initiated the process of deregistering the two from the Society."
Mutua further detailed the potential consequences for the artists, saying, "If the resolution by a recent special AGM is upheld, the two will not be members of MCSK and will not earn any royalties for FIVE years. Repeat offense will earn them a life ban! We must get rid of this madness and restore sanity. Thank you KFCB for acting."
