A section of the clergy has called for a meeting between President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to resolve the the latter's pending impeachment.

Under the umbrella of the Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical Clergy of Kenya (APECK), the clerics said a meeting between the two can help in resolving the matter.

Led by chairman Fredrick Ngugi and his deputy Joseph Maisha, the leaders said the Church believes in reconciliation, forgiveness and people including leaders working together.

"We are ready us a church to mediate if we are called upon for the reconciliation of the two leaders, if at all they are having political differences. The end of differences by the two leaders will ensure this country is safe and have it move on with development plans," said Bishop Maisha

The clergy spoke at St Andrews Church, Nairobi Wednesday.

The church leaders also called for the withdrawal of the Religious Organizations Bill 2024. The Bill by Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana is before the Senate.

They appealed for the implementation of the Church agenda which is contained in the memorandum of understanding of 2022 that they signed with President William Ruto when he was Deputy President.

They said the agreement was signed at Ruto's official residence in Karen, Nairobi when he was campaigning for presidency.

The clergy said Ruto committed to the MoU by appending his signature and promised to fully implement it if elected as President.

"This Bill is not only retrogressive and punitive but also infringes on the Constitution of Kenya 2010 as it further violates freedom of worship enshrined in article 32, " said Maisha.
