Ruto appoints Kanja as Inspector General of Police

President William Ruto has appointed Douglas Kanja as the Inspector General of the National Police Service.
In a gazette notice dated September 19, Ruto announced the appointment of Kanja who will now serve for four years.
"I William Ruto appoint Douglas Kanja Kirocho to be the Inspector General of the National Police Service for a term of 4 years," the gazette notice read.
Kanja will now succeed Japhet Koome, who resigned on July 12, at the height of the anti-government protests, as the sixth Inspector-General since the promulgation of the new Constitution.
He was approved on Wednesday by the ="https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001502933/national-assembly-approves-douglas-kanjas-nomination-as-ig">National Assembly< after the Senate following his vetting.
Before the vetting, Kanja was the Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police before the President nominated him to become the Inspector General of Police following Koome's resignation.
