Police constables and Senior Assistant Inspector General are smiling home.

The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) on Thursday, September 5 announced a salary review for police officers, raising the entry-level salary for constables from Sh21,645 to Sh25,645.

Constables with the longest service will now earn a gross salary ranging from Sh50,145 to Sh69,640, inclusive of all allowances, according to NPS Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia.

He noted that the maximum salary of Sh69,640 applies to constables who have served for 20 years or more.

"Even without promotion, we provide annual incremental notches," Kinuthia added.

For Senior Assistant Inspectors General, the entry-level basic salary has increased from Sh200,899 to Sh221,915, an increase of Sh21,026.

The longest-serving officers in this rank will earn between Sh310,725 and Sh409,365 in gross monthly pay.

The Commission has also approved the merit-based promotion of 1,957 officers, who include 87 women and 1,870 policemen.

NPSC is also considering promoting other 629 officers to the ranks of police constable and at some 31 others to Chief Inspector of Police (CIP).
