Irungu Nyakera, the newly appointed chairman of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), has pledged to transform it into a premier tourism destination.
Nyakera was appointed to the position by President William Ruto for a three-year term, replacing Adelina Mwau, whose appointment was revoked.
On Monday, Nyakera met with James Mwaura, the Chief Executive Officer of KICC, during a familiarization tour, where he reiterated his commitment to supporting the growth and revitalization of KICC.
Nyakera stated the Convention Centre will become "a premier tourism destination, rivaling other regional powerhouses in Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, including Kigali in Rwanda and Cape Town in South Africa."
Additionally, he expressed his dedication to collaborating with the KICC board of directors and assisting other cities in developing their conference tourism potential, contributing positively to Kenya's economic growth.
Nyakera previously served as the chairperson of the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA).
