President William Ruto has appointed Patrick Mwiti as the Commissioner General of Prisons.

Mwiti's appointment was announced by Statehouse Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Friday, July 12.

"In accordance with the Prisons Act, the President has appointed Patrick Mwitu Arandu as the Commissioner General of Prisons," read the statement.

Mwiti succeeds John Warioba, who is proceeding on terminal leave pending the end of his tenure. Warioba was appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2021 to replace Wycliffe Ogallo, who was dismissed from the position.

To boost efficiency in security agencies, President Ruto also appointed Ranson Lolmodooni as the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU) and Gilbert Masengeli as Commandant of the Administration Police Training College (APTC) in Embakasi.

Other appointments include William Yiampoy, who will serve as the new Director of Operations at Police Headquarters, and Kainga Mathiu as the new Commandant of the National Police Leadership Academy (NPSA) in Ngong.

These appointments are effective immediately.
