Chief Justice Martha Koome has declared Tuesday, June 18 a day of mourning for the entire Judiciary in solidarity with Makadara's Magistrate Monica Kivuti.

Kivuti died while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital, after being shot by a police officer while performing her duties on Thursday.

According to Koome, no court across the country will sit on that day.

"Tuesday, June 18 is declared as a day of mourning for the entire Judiciary. Presiding Judges and heads of stations will lead remembrance meetings in common rooms in all court stations in the country. Court stations in Nairobi will convene at Madaraka and Milimani Law Courts," read a statement by Koome.

Matters that had been listed on Tuesday across Courts and Tribunals in the country Koome says, will be accommodated in court diaries on a priority basis.

Further, all Judiciary flags will fly half-mast until the body of Kivuti is laid to rest.

Makadara Law Court is to remain closed until Monday, June 24 to allow the dismantling of the makeshift court structures and reorganization for security reasons.

Those with matters listed before Makadara Law Court are advised to appear before Milimani Law Court where they will be mentioned.
