Security sector receives Sh377.5 billion boost in budget

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u has unveiled a substantial allocation for the security sector in the latest budget.

The total sum earmarked stands at Sh377.5 billion, a measure Ndung'u believes is crucial for the country's economic progression.

During the budget reading for the fiscal year 2024/25 Ndung'u explained, "Enhanced national security creates an enabling environment for businesses to thrive while aiding faster economic recovery."

The breakdown of the allocation includes Sh110.6 billion for the National Police Service, Sh46.3 billion for the National Intelligence Service, and Sh32.7 billion for the Prisons Department.

At the same time, Sh13.9 billion is designated for leasing police vehicles.

Furthering the commitment to modernising the security apparatus, Ndung'u has proposed Sh918.4 million for the development of the forensic laboratory, a critical component in crime detection and prevention.
