United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Jean Njeri Kamau as the UN Resident Coordinator in Guyana, effective September 15.

As the highest-ranking UN representative in the country, the Resident Coordinator leads UN country teams and coordinates the UN's support for countries in implementing the 2030 Agenda.

Njeri has over 20 years of experience in human rights, development, political governance, and institutional development. 

She recently served as Kenya’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and as the Permanent Representative to the African Union.

She has also held diplomatic posts in South Africa, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Washington, D.C. 

Before joining the diplomatic service, Njeri worked in public sector and civil society roles, including Country Director for ActionAid International in Kenya and Lesotho, and as the first Executive Director of the Federation of Women Lawyers, Kenya (FIDA-Kenya).

She holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the University of Nairobi and a Master’s in Democratic Studies from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.
