Nine killed after bus plunges into Mbagathi River

At least nine people have been confirmed dead while eighteen (18) others sustained injuries following a fatal road accident in Karen, Nairobi.
According to a police report, a bus ferrying passengers from Gataka Shopping Center to Karen Hardy plunged into the Mbagathi River killing six on the spot.
The driver is reported to have lost control of the vehicle.
“It happened that the bus was being driven from Gataka shopping center towards Karen Hardy's direction. On reaching the Mbagathi River, the driver lost control and plunged into the said river,” the police report seen by The Standard said.
“As a result of the accident, six people died on the spot while two died while being rushed to hospital. 18 others were injured and rushed to various nearby hospitals.”

At least fourteen other people are undergoing treatment at Karen and Ngong, and St Mary's Hospitals, within Nairobi.
Efforts to tow the bus are underway.
