Police in Kasarani area, Nairobi County are holding three suspected robbers who unsuccessfully tried to carjack a taxi driver. They recovered a homemade pistol among other weapons from them.

The driver narrowly escaped the harrowing experience after three passengers who had booked a ride from Juja, in Kiambu County to Kilimani, within Nairobi ordered him to stop at gun-point.

"On reaching Githurai area along the Thika Super Highway, one of the occupants who was on the back seat drew a home-made pistol and pointed at the driver ordering him to stop the vehicle," police said in a report filed at the Kasarani Police Station.

The driver bravely declined to stop and instead sped directly into Kasarani Police Station where the officer manning the gate came to his rescue after sensing danger.

"Upon arrival at the station's entrance, the driver was stopped for checking, and that is when the three passengers opened their doors and tried escaping," Police added.

The officers on duty at the main gate gave a chase and managed to arrest the three youths at Shell Petrol Station along Mwiki Road where they were searched, and the homemade pistol, a pair of scissors, and a screwdriver were found on them.

The three who are awaiting arraignment in court, have been identified as Kelvin Muriithi Nyaga aged 22, Julisu Mbithi aged 23, and Joy Mumbi Nyaga aged 19.
