The Nigeria Youth international was taken to the hospital from the pitch after suffering a concussion

Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi, currently on loan at Mainz, suffered a head injury during their 1-0 Bundesliga defeat to Augsburg on Sunday.

The 22-year-old, midway through the first half, collided with Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai and was carried off the pitch on a stretcher.

Giving update on Awoniyi’s injury, Mainz FC, through their official account, said that the Nigerian star  is recovering well at the hospital and underwent a scan, which revealed no break, and he remained there overnight for further monitoring.

"Our striker Taiwo Awoniyi suffered a concussion ... and is spending the night in hospital as a precautionary measure," Mainz said on Twitter.

Awoniyi, who has also had loan spells at Frankfurt, NEC Nijmegen, Excelsior Mouscron and Gent has scored one goal in 12 league appearances for Mainz this season.

He has never played for Liverpool.

Mainz remain 15th, three points above the relegation zone with three games remaining.
