Strathmore University Scorpions maintained their perfect start to the 2022 Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Women’s Premier League season after narrowly edging out Dutch Flower Group Wolverines 1-0 in on Saturday.

National women’s hockey team striker Gilly Okumu scored the winning goal. The Scorpion defeated Sliders 3-0 last weekend.

The result moved them to the top of the league standings with six points from two matches.

Defending champions Blazers meanwhile were held to a 1-1 draw by USIU-A Spartans women’s team.

Terry Masibo gave Blazers the lead in 42nd minute after converting from the spot before national team forward Naomi Kemunto leveled the scores in the 50th minute.

The draw leaves Blazers second on four points. Blazers defeated Sliders 2-0 in their opening match two weeks ago.

USIU-A are joint second with four points from two matches same as champions Blazers. USIU defeated sliders 2-0 in their first match.

Amira Sailors, who were not in action over the weekend, are third with a point from one match, same as Wolverines, although the latter has played one more match.

At the bottom end, Sliders are winless from three matches.

Sliders have lost three snatches against Blazers (3-0), USIU-A (2-0) and Strathmore (3-0).
