The Government will transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA) on October 1, 2024.

The move follows the enactment of the Social Health Insurance (SHI) Act 2023.

In a notice to all employers on Monday, September 16, Ministry of Health Acting Chief Executive Officer Elijah Wachira said the transition aims to enhance healthcare coverage.

"This shift will provide a more streamlined approach to health insurance, ensuring better access to quality care for all Kenyans," said Wachira.

The last date for NHIF admissions is Sunday, September 30. Payments made by Monday, October 9, will be credited to NHIF, while remittances from Friday, November 9, onwards will be credited to SHA.

Employers must use the SHA Employer Portal to manage employee SHI contributions.

The portal allows for employee registration, contribution remittance, report generation, and updating employee information.

Employers should create and verify an account, register their employees, and ensure timely contributions.

Wachira said all employees must be registered with SHA before October 1 to avoid disruption in coverage.
