Migori County has recorded a suspected case of Monkey pox (Mpox) in Isebania border point at the Kenya-Tanzania border.

The county's Public Health Chief Officer Marbel Chanzu said the suspected case is still undergoing laboratory tests.

"We are yet to confirm. Our teams are on the ground so that we can see whether we are safe," Ms. Chanzu said.

The county government has since activated border surveillance to ensure the safety and well-being of its residents as it advised them to stay wake.

According to the chief officer, they have kicked off border surveillance and have screened 100 people at Isebania and Muhuru border points.

"We are really concerned and we have placed our staffs to do screening. This is because we have been called and there is a suspected case that has been found today," Chanzu said.

She warned residents to try and behave so that they don't get monkey pox.

Residents have been asked to maintain hygiene at all times and report to the nearest health facility when they experience symptoms of the virus.

"We should be very careful. We shall do whatever we can to ensure that we don't lose anybody," Chanzu highlighted.

She warned that it may reach a point where they might tell residents to put on a mask.
