Kenya Golf Union chairman David Ndungu will be hosting the Chairman's Prize on May 16 and 17 at the stunning par-72 Limuru Golf and Country Club.

Known for its challenging layout and picturesque sceneries, participants have been drawn from across the nation for an exciting golfing experience, offering various prizes provided by sponsors.

During Ndungu's tenure, which began a year ago, the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series has expanded from 28 tournaments in 2024 to 31 tournaments this year.

This growth has attracted leading amateur golfers from the region, including Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Additionally, the number of participants in the Rules School, coordinated by the union, has also increased. So far this year, 150 participants have attended the five sessions.

KGU has also launched a High Performance Programme (HPP) aimed at nurturing young, talented golfers to help them achieve elite status and ultimately turn professional.

Investments have been made in training and development for course superintendents and greenkeepers, with the first cohort of 10 participants receiving global certification through the Africa Turf Academy in South Africa fully sponsored by KGU, Royal and Ancient (R&A) and the Africa Turf Academy.

Collaboration with local coaches has been prioritised to enhance their coaching skills while bringing new coaches on board for the national team and HPP.

The union is also working closely with Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU), Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) and Kenya Golf Federation (KGF) to refine the framework for a unified Golf Federation in Kenya.
