Handicap 18 Wanjama crowned in Limuru

Home golfer Anne Wanjama chalked a whooping 43 stableford points to clinch the overall winner prize of the Crown Paints Golf Tournament at Limuru Golf and Country Club over the weekend.

Wanjama, playing off handicap 18, had a sterling round thanks to the immaculate course condition and biting cold being experienced in the area that forced the captaincy to suspend play on Wednesday during their Clubnite for two hours.

The series, sponsored by paintmaker Crown Paints Limited, kicked off at Nyali Golf and Country Club before heading to Muthaiga Golf Club, Sigona Golf Club.

After Limuru, the Royal Nairobi Golf Club will host the next leg before heading out of town to Kisumu at Nyanza Golf Club, Nakuru Golf Club, and Kericho Sports Club.

It will return to Nairobi at Karen Golf and Country Club before winding up at Eldoret Sports Club.

Shooting the lowest Gross of 75 points was the Gross winner Joseph Ikanyi, playing off handicap 3.

Division A, Men winner was Samuel Ngaruiya, playing off handicap 7 with a score of 37 stableford points. Wairimu Thande emerged as the Lady winner in the same division with 35 stableford points.

Moses Karanu, playing off handicap 17, posted 41 stableford points to star in Division B as handicap 34 Wanjiku Migwi won with 42 stableford points.

Handicap 39, Karen Karani led in Division C with a score of 32 stableford points.

The Nines saw Bachoo Shaffi win the First Nine prize with 22 stableford points while Feisal Ahmed won the Second Nine prize with 21 stableford points.

S Bandari claimed the Senior prize with 34 stableford points, with Hakeem Mutungi winning the Junior prize with a commendable score of 36 stableford points.

Leading the visiting golfers was handicap 30 L Migoye scored 39 stableford points to win the Guest prize.

Former club Captain Fred Ikana outdrove the rest of the field to win the Longest Drive Men prize. Bernice Ng'inja won the Longest Drive Lady winner prize.

The Nearest to Pin prize contest saw Kevin Githunguri and Janerose Gitari win the men's and ladies' prizes.

A total of 18 twos were recorded by club Chairman John Keru, K Kirumba, Kevin Githunguri and Wanjiku Migwi among others winning four golf balls each.

At Vet Lab Sports Club course, Paul Kanyeki, playing off handicap 20 won the Kenya Veterinary Association (KVA) Golf Day overall prize with 41 stableford points. Eric Wakarima bagged the Men winner prize with 40 stableford points while Simon Mwatha was the Men winner second on 40 stableford points.

Handicap 35 Kozue Okumu was the Lady winner after returning a score of 40 stableford points followed by the evergreen Rose Mwarania upon returning 39 stableford points.
