A huge field of over 700 golfers has been drawn up for the 2024 Captain (Jesse Ndegwa) Prize golf tournament, whose main meet will be held on Saturday.

This will be a double for Ndegwa, who has skippered Ruiru Sports Club for the past two years, as the club turned 100 years old this year.

Ndegwa accomplished a lot of improvement to the 18-hole course, while ensuring that the club's calendar of events was busy throughout his tenure.

He was also instrumental in the growth of the junior golf segment at the club with a lot of promising junior golfers emerging from the program.

This year's meet is presented by Family Bank, Kenya Pipeline Company, CIC Insurance, Madison Insurance, and AM Communications Ltd, among others.

There will be an array of prizes on offer for the field of amateurs during the week-long extravaganza, while professional golfers will battle it out for a share of the prize fund.

"I welcome everyone to this year's edition. It is an exciting time that we are having this tournament, and it is my hope that it will be worthwhile. It is not just a tournament, but an extraordinary golfing experience. Come, play golf and build new connections," said captain Ndegwa.

The tournament was set off by a junior tournament last Sunday, followed by the caddies' event on Tuesday, which saw a rich field of 40 juniors and 100 caddies take to the fairways respectively.

The tight draw will see golfers tee off as early as 6:20am in a stableford scoring format with strategically placed marshalls across the course to ensure a smooth flow of the game before the presentation dinner.
