Serani Secondary School held its nerve to edge out Tononoka Secondary School 5-3 in post-match penalties to recapture the title they had lost last year as Coast Region Term Two games ended yesterday in Mpeketoni, Lamu.

It was sweet revenge for Serani, who had suffered at the hands of their neighbors, Tononoka, who snatched their county as well as regional title last year.

Serani had also lost the Mombasa County final to Tononoka in penalties. Just like the county final, the two sides had played to a 1-1 draw and set the stage for the decisive penalties.

Serani winger Emmanuel Ngala bagged the boys' Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

In the semis, Serani had dismissed Nzovuni Secondary School 2-1, while Tononoka edged Jaribuni Secondary School 5-4 in post-match penalties after their clash ended in a one-all draw. Nzovuni beat Jaribuni 2-1 to win the bronze medal.

Mwanambeyu Secondary School ensured that they retained Kwale County girls title that had been won by their Kombani counterparts last year.

They thrashed Kachochoroni Secondary School 4-2 in the final, with Rehema Chirongo, who was instrumental in their campaign, winning the MVP award.

Mwanambeyu had laboured to a 3-1 win against Moi Forces Academy in the semis after their clash ended in a 1-1 deadlock. Kachochoroni, on the other hand, had dismissed Minhaj 2-1.

Mwaluphamba Secondary School and Moi Forces were crowned volleyball boys and girls champions after triumphing in their respective final matches. However, their victories did not come easy, as they were forced to fight harder, winning the games in five sets.

Mwaluphamba started the match well, taking the first set 25-18, but Jaribu recovered to level matters 25-19. Mwaluphamba fought on to win the third set 25-20, but Jaribuni would delay their victory by dominating the fourth set, easily taking it 25-11, setting the stage for the decisive fifth set, which Mwaluphamba won 15-11.

Moi Forces made their intentions to win the title known, dominating Mwanambeyu in the girls' final, taking the first two sets 25-19 and 25-20.

Determined not to go down without a proper fight, Mwanambeyu recovered to win the third and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-23. Moi Forces regrouped to control the fifth set, cruising to victory and taking the set 15-7. Brandon Lukale of Mwaluphamba and Daphine Nekesa of Mwanambeyu took home the boys and girls volleyball MVP awards.

Kaya Tiwi stamped authority in netball to extend their regional reign to eight years in a row. They beat Moi Forces 41-16 in the girls final to book their straight eighth national appearance. Kizurini beat Menzamwenye 38-33 to take bronze, with their player Faith Neema taking the MVP trophy.

Bishop Baldacchino and Paul Harris were crowned the rugby 7s boys and girls champions. Baldacchino beat Gede Boys 19-10, while Paul Harris hammered Shimba Hills 50-0 in the final. The region also selected composite tennis, table tennis, and badminton teams to represent Coast at the National Term Two games set for July 28 to August 2 in Kakamega.
