SCHOOLS: Nyakach Girls dominate Nyanza Region day one action

Nyakach Girls High School kicked off their campaign at the 2024 Nyanza Region Secondary School Term Two on the front foot after dominating their volleyball and football matches on Wednesday at Kisii High School.

The multiple time Kisumu County champions begun their pursuit of the volleyball girls title by thumping Kameji 3-0 in their opening match and a resounding 13-0 win over Moremani in football girls.

Nyakach Girls headline Group A where they will play Kiabigoria, Ogande and Kemeji in volleyball

In Group B, Ikonge lost 3-0 to Nyakembene in the pool that also has Koru and Nyakongo.

In volleyball boys, Kisumu County champions Nyabondo made light work of Etono as they won 3-1 while Siaya County champions Chianda High School were whipped 3-0 by Nyabisia.

Football witnessed drama in both boys and girls’ matches. 14 goals were scored in the opening girls two matches where Nyakach Girls drilled in 13 goals past Moremani.

Defending champions St Mary’s Lwak Girls High School from Siaya County meanwhile begun their title defense with a narrow 1-0 win over Migori Education Center.

Shockingly, all the two opening football boys’ matches were marred with scenes of hooliganism as the Kisumu Day verses Agoro Sare match failed to kick off due to crowd trouble while the Matutu and Sameta match was abandoned after fans invaded the pitch in protest of a goal.

Meanwhile, Nyanza Sports Vibez and Kisumu Polytechnic were praised after dominating trophies and medals for the Nyanza region games.

Nyanza Sports Vibez donated nine trophies, medals for Most Valuable Players in addition to kitting the officials of the four day Nyanza games.

Nyanza Sports Vibez is a haven for sportsmen, women, athletes, and enthusiasts, offering a wide array of equipment, apparel, and accessories tailored to various sports and fitness activities, fostering a vibrant and active community.

Nyanza Region Secondary School Sports Association (NRSSSA) chairman George Oloo thanked Nyanza Sports Vibez for their generous donations.

“We appreciate Nyanza Sports Vibez. This is a good move that will go a long way to motivate everyone involved in the games,” said Oloo.

Kisumu Polytechnic led by their representative Jackline India also donated a trophy at the Nyanza games as they sensitized teachers, fans and students on the courses they offer at their institution.
