Nyakembene High School has made a triumphant return to the local sports scene, dominating the Nyakembene Zonal ball games and securing a spot in the Gucha South sub-county competitions.
After a six-year hiatus from success in boys' soccer, Nyakembene showcased their prowess by clinching titles in both boys' and girls' soccer and volleyball.
The boys' soccer team, coached by Dancan Onenga, earned their ticket to the sub-county competitions with a decisive victory against Marongo High School.
A lone goal by Brian Obinchu in the 6th minute sealed the win, marking a sweet revenge for Nyakembene, who had previously been bested by Marongo.
The team advanced to the finals after defeating their neighbors, Giasobera, 1-0 in the semi-finals. In a parallel match, Marongo overcame Omobiri in a penalty shootout, winning 5-4 after a goalless draw in regular time.

Nyakembene’s girls' soccer team, coached by David Ham, also demonstrated their skill and resilience.
They retained their title by drawing against Omobiri and then emerging victorious in the penalty shootout, where Omobiri missed two crucial chances. In the semi-finals, the girls' team triumphed over Nyakorere in another penalty shootout. Nyakorere had previously beaten Giasobera 1-0 to reach the semi-finals.
In volleyball, Nyakembene continued their winning streak. Both the boys' and girls' teams were crowned zonal champions after defeating Marongo and Giasobera, respectively. These victories underscore Nyakembene's dominance across multiple sports disciplines within the zone.
Looking ahead, the Nyakembene boys' soccer team is set to face the formidable Nduru Boys in the Gucha South sub-county competition, scheduled for next week at the Nyamarambe sports grounds.
With their recent performances, Nyakembene High School is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming games, continuing their journey of redemption and excellence.
