Nzoia Sugar relegated to the National Super League

Nzoia Sugar have been relegated to the National Super League (NSL).

The Bungoma County-based outfit was relegated after playing out to a 0-0 draw against Nairobi City Stars over the weekend.

Nzoia have lost 20 matches of the 31 matches played, drawing seven and winning only four matches this season.

The draw marked the end of Nzoia's eight-year run in the top flight, with three matches left in the season.

When they lost 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz during last week’s midweek matches, the Sugar Millers needed to win all their remaining four games starting with the City Stars to stand a chance of staying afloat.

If they would have accumulated 12 points, Nzoia would move to 30 points.

However, this also required Shabana (29 points) and Muhoroni Youth (28 points) to lose all their remaining matches.

The draw against City Stars at their own backyard sealed Nzoia's fate as they drop to the second tier league next season.

Nzoia Sugar, who has been in the FKFPL since 2016 and has often flirted with danger in the lower regions of the log, finished last season in fourth place. 

On the bright-side, Nzoia has produced some of the big names in the local league including Boniface Omondi, and Lawrence Juma both of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards legion of Humphrey Katasi, Randy Bakari, Vincent Mahiga, Luke Namanda, Boniface Munyendo, Brian Yakhama, Hassan Beja among others.
