The battle to avoid the drop will take center stage today (Wednesday) as the FKF Premier League midweek action gets under way with eyes on bottom teams including Nzoia Sugar, Muhoroni Youth, Sofapaka, and Shabana.

With five matches left until the end of the 2023-2024 season, every match is a final for the bottom clubs as the National Super League (NSL) lays waiting for the weaker teams next season.

The stakes are very high for bottom placed Nzoia Sugar who will face off with Kakamega Homeboyz at Mumias Sports Complex.

A defeat will leave the sugar men 10 points away from the safety zone currently occupied by FC Talanta. With 18 points, Nzoia need a miracle to avoid the drop.

In fact, the sugar millers need to win all their remaining five matches and pray their fellow strugglers drop points for them to survive the chop.

Both teams are winless in their last six matches but Homeboyz who won the first leg 1-0 last year in October will be hoping to make it a double.

At the same time. second last placed Muhoroni Youth who are nine points clear off Nzoia Sugar will welcome Bandari at Muhoroni Stadium in Kisumu with a target of getting off the bottom.

Muhoroni who have not beaten Bandari since 2022 have an uphill task against the dockers.

In fact, the last three meetings at Muhoroni Stadium have ended in a draw with the last time Muhoroni Youth won at home being in 2018. The 2022 win was away at Bandari’s backyard.

Sofapaka on the other hand will play Posta Rangers in Machakos as FC Talanta play Shabana.

Sofapaka and Shabana are tied on 28 points while FC Talanta is just two points off the relegation zone.
