Olunga to mentor young football stars through his academy

Harambee Stars captain Micheal Olunga has partnered with St Joseph's Boys High School Kitale to mentor and develop future football stars.

The Qatar-based striker through his Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) struck a deal with the school principal Cosmas Nabungolo on Wednesday.

St Joseph's Boys became the fourth school to benefit from the MOFA partnership after deals with Agoro Sare in Homabay, St Mary's Yala in Siaya and Kisumu Day in Kisumu.

During the unveiling of the partnership, Olunga pledged to bring in both local and international football expertise to mentor football talents at the school.

"I'm happy to be associated with St Joseph's Boys, especially with the principal (Nabungolo), a renowned football lover and coach. MOFA has today entered into a partnership agreement with the school to develop and train talents in Trans Nzoia County," said Olunga.

He said apart from football, the partnership would also promote education in the school.

"The partnership agreement would explore and offer educational scholarships to students," he said amid jubilation from the students and teachers.

He said Kenya has a lot of potential that needs to be exploited and the livelihood of the talented footballers will get better.

"The country is brimming with potential that just has to be exploited and improve the livelihood of the talents. MOFA is pursuing to ensure the dreams of soccer talents are achieved," he said.

Olunga disclosed that he is set to establish at least one academy in each of the 47 counties in a bid to nurture upcoming football stars.

Nabungolo led the school community to appreciate the partnership and lauded Olunga for considering the institution as potential ground for football talents and promised to ensure local football talents benefit from their prosperity.

Nabungolo further commended Olunga for being a focused, professional and great football ambassador of the country.

"He is a great football ambassador of our country. He has a remarkable track in football and a special mentor. As a school, we appreciate your good gesture to partner with us to promote football talents," said Nabungolo.
