The historical Tononoka football ground in Mombasa that had been invaded by traders in order to decongest Kongowea market due to the Covid-19 pandemic is set to be renovated.

The traders were taken back to Kongowea market by the county government after a meeting between the county government, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Mombasa sub-branch and football clubs that use the facility as their training and home ground.

Clubs represented at the meeting held at Mombasa County Stadium were Tononoka Rangers, Kaloleni Youth, Bantu Warriors and Omax.

There were fears that the ground was in the process of being grabbed by a private developer but the county government assured football fraternity in Mombasa that the ground was in safe hands and will be renovated.

Alliy Goshi, the FKF sub-branch chairman, told the media a contractor will be given the responsibilities of levelling the ground, planting of grass, sinking of boreholes and erecting a perimeter fence.
