Branislav Ivanovic reveals why Chelsea were humiliated 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday

Branislav Ivanovic has admitted Chelsea are under mounting pressure after an unconvincing start to the defence of their Premier League title.

Champions Chelsea were humiliated 3-0 at title rivals Manchester City on Sunday, to leave them on a solitary point following their opening day 2-2 draw at home to Swansea.

Jose Mourinho's side are already five points behind City, who have taken a maximum haul from their first two games, with Ivanovic admitting Chelsea cannot afford to lose further ground.

Ivanovic was one of Chelsea's worst performers at the Etihad Stadium, at fault for City's last two goals, as Mourinho's men suffered a morale-stripping defeat.

Under-fire defender Ivanovic said: "Last year we won the title but, honestly, we know this is another season now and we play with more pressure and need to adapt to that.

“Every team is improving. We can be better and have to show that on the pitch.

“We have to forget last season and start thinking about getting the points we need this season."

Ivanovic said Chelsea cannot afford to dwell on their nightmare afternoon at City and must instead focus on establishing some form to enable them to go on a sustained winning run.

"It was a very difficult game and disappointing result for us, but this is done now and we can't go back,” said Ivanovic.

“This is the Premier League, every game is like a final and we know we have to look forward.

"We haven't done well in the first two games, but there are another 36 to go and we know we have to improve ourselves.

"I think we tried to do everything we could and in some parts we controlled the game, but after that then maybe our concentration went down and we let them create some problems for us.

"They scored the goals and won the game, but for us we we know what we have to do. We have to get better for the next 36 games and for sure we won't give up after just two bad results."
