Harambee Stars head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee believes the national team can cause an upset on African giants Egypt when they clash in Group G tie of the 2021 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) Qualifiers on March 22 at Kasarani Stadium.

Stars, whose local-based players resumed non-residential training on February 8, have lined up three international friendly matches ahead of their fixture against the Pharaohs.

Kenya will play with South Sudan in their first friendly match on March 13 at Nyayo National Stadium before taking on Tanzania in a back-to-back encounter on March 15th and 18th in Nairobi.

Though Stars are currently third in the group with three points, five behind the joint group leaders (Egypt and Comoros), Mulee is hopeful his team will replicate their away first leg performance against Egypt (1-1) in Nairobi.

“We know Egypt is a big team because they are leading the group. But as the hosts, the expectations are high and we will try to give our best and get positive results,” said Mulee.

“Of course many Kenyans have a lot of hopes in the team, but we also have a role to play in getting those positive results.”

After the Pharaohs’ test, Harambee Stars will fly out to Lome for their final group match against bottom rooted Togo on March 29.

Meanwhile, Tusker teenage sensation Henry Meja has been crowned the FKF Premier League’s best player for the month of January.

This is a big boost for the Kakamega High School alumnus ahead of today’s tricky tie against Ulinzi Stars at Kasarani Stadium. The recognition comes barely a month after he claimed Tusker’s January player of the month award.

The youngster, whose recent impressive form saw him earn Harambee Stars call up ahead of upcoming 2021 Afcon qualifiers against Egypt and Togo, scored four goals and provided an assist in January.
