Chaos, boycotts mark FKF elections in most areas

Chaos and protests marked FKF elections in most regions yesterday with claims of irregularities.

In Kisumu, fights erupted after aspirants raised complains of vote-rigging.

Chemelil Sugar chairman Moses Adagala and outgoing FKF Nyanza North secretary Dickson Oruko, who were vying for the Kisumu County FKF chairmanship, faced off in a heated disagreement over irregular ballot papers.

Police officers were forced to lob tear gas to disperse the gathering after supporters of the two candidates clashed during counting of votes.

Calm was restored one hour later and counting resumed. Oruko was declared the winner with 36 votes and Adagala second with five.

Benta Owuor was elected as the Women Representative with 36 votes as Goreti Ogada came second with 6.

Seth Oduor emerged the winner in the secretary general position with 20 votes after beating John Odeyo, Domnic Mwalo and Peter Kassim.

George Ouma was voted as the treasurer as Calvin Ogalo won the Youth representative category.

Adagala vowed to appeal his loss to Oruko saying there were irregularities in the process.

“The election was not free and fair. We noticed malice during the counting process and when we inquired from the election officials they called police officers to chase us.”

“This is not democracy. We will be writing to FKF to conduct an inquiry,”he said.

Peter Karino was elected unopposed as Narok chairman as five branches saw incumbents re-elected in the Football Kenya Federation polls in South Rift.

Karino defeated Naftali Kirui 10-1 votes as Elias Musunkui won the secretary general post after beating Peter Sino. Paul Parmuat beat William Sadera to take the treasuer’s slot while Ntirenye Dikir floored Diana Sitatian and Charles Ledama to wear the youth representative crown.

Baringo, Laikipia, Kajiado, Nakuru and Nandi saw all incumbents go unopposed.

Kenneth Ruto was elected Baringo branch chairman with Samuel Tower as his deputy while Victor Situk is the Secretary-General, Willy Menego (treasurer), Jane Rotich (women representative) and Simon Arusei as the youth representative.

Ruto pledged to transform the sport in Baringo. “I am humbled to have retained the seat and I promise to do all I can to ensure we achieve our goals as branch,” he said. 

In Nakuru, Francis Oliele retained the chairmanship post and he will be deputised by Paul Kamau while other officials are Edmond Omungi (secretary-general), Peter Nderitu (treasurer), Dorcas Moraa is the women representative while James Angila is the youth representative.

Alex Musekeri is the new Kajiado branch chairman, vice chairman is Douglas Matoko and Nathaniel Shukuru as secretary-general while the treasurer is Ishmael Nasoore, Gladys Saunyi (women representative) and Hassan Abidrahaman as youth representative.

In Nyandarua, Lucy Kageni was elected the chairperson and she will be deputised by  Reuben M’Iringo while Joseph Thotho is the secretary-general and Daniel Mwaura as treasurer. Eunice Wanjiru and John Macharia were elected as women and youth representatives respectively.

In Nandi, Patrick Mutai won the chairman’s slot and the vice-chairman is Evans Andy while Joseph Wasike as the secretary-general. Kennedy Kalya won the treasurer’s contest while Tecla Lanet and Alfred Kiprop were elected as women and youth representatives.

Kilifi county did not have their election as all the officials were not cleared by the Football Kenya Federation electoral board.

Lamu and Tana River counties did not take part in the election as none of the clubs and interested candidates got clearance from the board.

The Electoral Board has set October 17 as national elections date.
