Contractors warned on stadiums deadline

The contractors working on Kamariny Stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet and Kipchoge Keino in Uasin Gishu have been warned that they need to complete the work within the deadline.

Speaking at Kamariny stadium in Iten yesterday, Sports Chief Administration secretary Hassan Noor Hassan, said the Government will not entertain excuses.

“I want to warn the contractors that the government is serious, we are not going to allow any misuse of funds meant for the completion of the stadiums. They need to find a way to complete the work or risk being kicked out if the construction is not executed by December 20,” said Noor.

Noor noted that although work had resumed at the stadiums the pace of construction was slow.

“The timeline cannot be adjusted anymore. It’s not going to work and that is why we are here supervising the work,” he said.

Athletics Kenya President Jack Tuwei also expressed displeasure at the contractors’ pace of work. He said Kamariny has been the main training base for athletes.

“This is one of the oldest stadiums in the country. Some of you don't know that World Athletics has honoured Iten for the work they have done,” Tuwei said.
