Newly appointed Thika United head coach Nicholas Muyoti intends to change his players’ attitude for better results in the Kenyan Premier League.

Mr Muyoti was elevated to the top post on Tuesday to replace James Nandwa, who takes over as the team’s Technical Director.

The club said in a statement that the move to promote Nandwa was in conformity with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) licensing requirements.

“Following this, Nicholas Muyoti, who was assistant coach, takes over as Head Coach and will be deputised by Joseph Rono,” the club said.

Commenting on his appointment, Muyoti, who is a former player at the club, said: “It is a big honour for me to take over as the team’s coach. I played for this team and want to thank the management and Nandwa for welcoming me.”

“Having said that, the most important thing is to work on the attitude of the players. Most of them are very young and talented, but they need to have the right attitude.

They need direction and if they follow instructions and play accordingly, then we should begin to get good results,” he said.

The changes come in the wake of poor results registered by Thika United. The team has won twice after nine rounds of matches and are 17th on the league standings with seven points.

Last weekend, they lost 3-2 to Ulinzi Stars and host Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday.

Muyoti was named Thika United’s assistant coach three months ago. He brings a wealth of experience after handling AFC Leopards and Zetech University.

Meanwhile, another struggling side, Western Stima have appointed Patrick Odhiambo as stand-in-coach to replace Henri Omino, who has taken a sick leave.

Stima are currently rooted at the bottom of the log with six points.
