While still a student at the Upper Hill School, Michael Olunga began his career with the Liberty Sports Academy in the Nairobi County League where he scored 32 goals for the side during the 2012 season, helping them finish the season unbeaten and earn promotion to the Nairobi Provincial League.

Olunga broke the internet once when he smashed seven goals in a single match helping his team to an 8-0 win.

The Kenyan megastar signed for Premier League side Tusker in 2012 on a one-year loan deal from Liberty.

After finishing the 2013 season with two goals for Tusker, Olunga was loaned to fellow Premier League side Thika United for another year, before joining Gor Mahia.

The superstar finished the season as the club's top scorer in the league with 19 goals to help the side win a record 15th league title without losing a single match, including the second goal in a 2–0 win over Muhoroni Youth on their final league match of the season.

Recently, Michael Olunga scored twice as his current club Djurgardens got back to its winning ways with a 2-1 away victory against former Sweden champions Helsingborg.

The Kenyan International hit the net in the 31st minute, finding the back of an empty goal post outside after a defensive mix-up from their hosts. The home side drew level in the 66th minute when Peter Larsson headed home to send the home fans into a frenzy.

Olunga however restored his team's lead just a minute later leaping above his two markers to head home the game's third goal which proved to be the winner. The result saw Djugarden end a run of two straight loses in the league.

Olunga is the club’s leading goal scorer with 10 goals in 26 appearances.
