Popular Nollywood actor John Okafor aka Mr Ibu is dead. Reports indicate Mr Ibu died on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at a hospital in Lagos.

In December 2023, Ibu's family issued an update on his health, assuring fans that the actor was doing well after an amputation.

The amputation was necessitated by the fact that he had constant clotting of blood in his leg and other underlying health conditions.

"The first amputation didn't completely correct his health predicament so the doctors had to go ahead to amputate the same leg further to ensure we didn't lose him.

"Daddy's cause of sickness is also not diabetes but he's had constant clotting of the blood in his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges posing risk to his life, therefore the need for the amputation," read the statement in part.

His family also said Ibu was deemed not fit to fly due to his health condition and thus had to be admitted to a hospital in Nigeria where various specialists would monitor him.

In 2022, Mr Ibu was hospitalized in Abuja and he claimed that he had been poisoned by 'village people' during his visit to Nkanu West, Enugu.
