To boost female representation in the government, female governors, led by Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru, have launched the 'G7 Strategy' in Machakos County.
Originally launched in March, the G7 Strategy aims to provide a platform for discussions on increasing the number of women in leadership roles and offering mentorship to aspiring female leaders.
Additionally, the group seeks to rally support from Kenyans for the re-election of female governors who will be seeking a second term, as well as for deputy governors planning to run for the governorship.
Waiguru stated that the collective vision of the seven female governors is to see 24 female governors elected in 2027, alongside other women in parliamentary positions.
To achieve this, the leaders are engaging with women at the grassroots level, holding discussions focused on leadership and women's empowerment.

According to Waiguru such efforts are vital, as women at all levels, including the grassroots, play a crucial role in the country's decision-making processes.
"The launch of this strategy in counties is intended to popularize it and tailor its approach to local contexts, while also discussing the implementation of robust mentorship programs to increase the number of women in leadership across the country," Waiguru said in a statement.
The event in Machakos was attended by Governor Wavinya Ndeti of Machakos, along with her counterparts Cecily Mbarire of Embu, Fatuma Achani of Kwale, Gladys Wanga of Homa Bay County, Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika and other key leaders in the country.
