New Athletes take shape at the third indoor games meeting

Little known Emanuel Kiplagat has set his sight at the Commonwealth Games that is due in August in Birmingham, England after winning the men's 10,000m heat 2, final at Nyayo National Stadium over the weekend.

 "I am aiming at the moon, if I miss, I might hit a star which is the World Championships. So you never know, I will work with my coach Barnabas Kitilit so that I can improve further," said Kiplagat.

Kiplagat won the race at 28:19:65 beat Collins Kones who crossed the tape at 28:21:20 with Charles Kamau and Edwin Seko finishing third and fourth respectively.

 Julius Kipkwony finished fifth.

 In 5000m women, Margaret Ekidor finished 15:26:81 beat Teresia Muthoni, and the World Under 20, Rebecca Mwangi.

In 100m Women finals, Maximila Imali won the race finishing at 11:72, followed by Eunice Kadogo.

Monica Safania and Mercy Chebet came in third and fourth respectively.

Elsewhere, Athletics Kenya has selected a team of 16 member to represent the country in the World Athletics indoor games to be held in Serbia.

The team comprise of 10 athletes and six officials is expected in Belgrade, Serbia on 16th March, ahead of the championship which is set for 18th-20th March, 2022.

Leading the pack is the Africa men's 100m record holder Ferdinand Omanyala who pulled an impressive time of 10:00 setting a world leading time of the Nyayo National Stadium record.

 Omanyala is selected for the 60m while Korir Naomi, Eglay Nafula, Collins Kipruto and Noah Kibet will run in the 800m.

 Ednah Jebitok will compete for 1500m and 3000m steeplechase. Beatrice Chebet, Jacob Krop, Daniel Ebonyo will each compete in the 3000m, while Kipsang Abel will go for the 1500m.

Barnabas Kitilit will lead the team while Hassan Ahmed, will be technical Leader. Busienei Janeth will be team's coach as Francis Philemona, Muraya Lydia, Wambui Irene, will be Medical team.
