Handball fixture altered to mourn KDF player Mwangi

Following the untimely death of Ulinzi Handball Team player Sergent Daniel Mwangi, Kenya Handball Federation has altered the Super Cup match fixtures.

The Super Cup which was set to start on 5th March has been moved a week ahead in order to give players time to mourn Daniel Mwangi. 

Through a communique released, the federation said the shift in dates was arrived at in order to allow the KDF players room to accord Mwangi a befitting sendoff.

“Kenya handball federation wishes to inform you of the new dates of Super Cup 2022 following the demise of KDF player Sgt. Daniel Mwangi who died after being knocked down by a vehicle that veered off the Road at Nyayo Stadium Bus stage just after the day's training’’ read the statement in part.

“By this letter, therefore, kindly let’s stand together KDF and the young family of the deceased as they plan to give him a befitting send-off,"  POOL A comprises of NCPB, Black Mamba and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) while Pool B consists of Strathmore University, General Service Unit (G.S.U) and Kenyatta University (KU).’’

Women league consists of Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (Nairobi Water, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Cereals and Produce Board (Cereals) and Nanyuki.

In the new fixture, Nairobi Water women will meet Nanyuki at noon on 12th March 2022 with men Cereals battling it with KDF at 1.30 pm before Strathmore squares it out with Kenyatta University at 3 pm. 

The following day will see the KDF Women team take on Nanyuki at 10 am, GSU against Strathmore in men at 11.30 am. Cereals and Nairobi Water Women will revisit their rivalry at 1 pm before Mwamba takes on Miller's NCPB in men at 2.30 pm.

20th March 2022

1. Semi Finals 1(Winner Pool A vs 2nd Pool B at12pm

2. Semi Finals 2(Winner Pool B vs 2nd Pool A 1.30 Pm

3. KDF vs NCPB (W) 3 pm

26th March 2022

1. Nairobi Water vs KDF (W) 1 pm

2. Finals Men 2.30 pm

Mwangi was knocked down by a speeding vehicle at the Nyayo National Stadium on his way from an afternoon training on Monday 21st March 2022 and died on the spot. ?
